WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Troy Balderson (OH-12) raised concerns over the Biden Administration's decision to halt liquified natural gas (LNG) export projects during a recent hearing. The debate unfolded as Balderson confronted Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm during her appearance before the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security.

During the exchange, Balderson questioned Secretary Granholm about the impact of increasing LNG exports on domestic natural gas prices. Granholm responded by stating, "It’s one of the issues that are being researched by the national labs as we consider what’s in the public interest."

Balderson countered the administration's rationale by highlighting the stability of natural gas prices since the inception of American LNG exports in 2016. He pointed out that despite the significant increase in LNG export capacity, natural gas prices have remained affordable. Balderson emphasized the contrast by stating, "Under President Biden, gasoline prices have gone up 48 percent, home heating oil is up 33 percent, electricity is up 29 percent, and total energy costs are up 39 percent."

In an effort to protect consumers from escalating energy costs, Balderson proposed that the Biden Administration reevaluate its policies that may contribute to inflation. He criticized the administration for actions such as blocking leasing on federal lands and imposing fees on natural gas producers, which he believes are detrimental to ensuring affordable energy for constituents.

The debate surrounding the LNG export ban continues to be a point of contention, with stakeholders on both sides presenting contrasting perspectives on the potential implications for domestic energy prices.
